• Believe in Yourself!

Welcome back to another amazing year at HCS! I hope that you spent the summer relaxing with friends and family, as well as finding some time for yourselves.

I continue to be impressed and proud of the family of educators that we have here at Harrisville Central School. As we begin another school year, I look forward to all the joys our Pirate Family brings to our school and community.

I would like to take a minute and update changes for the new school year. I am overjoyed with our dedicated team of professionals who are here to ensure that our staff and students have an exceptional educational experience in our student-centered school district.

With great pride and excitement I would like to welcome the new additions that we have hired. Ms. Sara Kingsbury – 1st grade; Mrs. Lynn Herzig – 5th grade; Ms. Jacqueline Bochicchio – AIS Literacy & Elementary Art; Mrs. Regina Countryman – Elementary Special Education; Mrs. Gena Stamp -  K-12 Vocal Music, Coach Cody Borden - MS/HS PE Classroom; Dr. Robert Jaspersohn – MS/HS Science; Ms. Ashely Oxenford – Spanish; Ms. Sarah Pascal - HS Science; Mrs. Jennifer Smith – AIS Math. Welcome to our Pirate Family!

We also welcome Troy Herbert as our Dean of Students. Troy will assist in student discipline for grades k-12. The purpose for this move was to free up Mrs. Bird and Mr. Luther to spend more time in the classrooms to ensure the best possible instructional practices for your kids. This was the perfect scenario for the District and Mr. Hebert, as he needed to complete over 450 hours of an internship to complete his administrative degree.

We have implemented a new system for notifications; “One Call Now”. This is an automated notification system that provides emergency and routine phone calls, text messages, and email messaging to our parents and staff through the contact information we have on file for your student. You will be notified of closings, delays, emergencies and any other important activities happening at school.

On half days students will now be released at 1:00 p.m. to ensure that every student gets a hot lunch, and 2 hour delays will remain the same.

The building project is coming along well. The improvements at the bus garage are expected to be complete by Christmas. Phase I improvements at the main building are expected to be complete by mid-December. Phase II of the main building (upgrades to the Science rooms and cafeteria) are expected to start in June of 2018 and be finished by September 1, 2018. Thank you to the entire community for supporting our capital project that will enhance the educational experience of our children.

    Cordially,

    Robert Finster
